Shaw’s Erica Lafrades Named To All-CIAA Softball Team

Arroyo, Grimmage, Holliday Named To Second Team

(Raleigh, NC) -  Shaw University’s Erica Lafrades was today named to the All-CIAA Softball Team at second base.  Teammates Monica Grimmage, Chelsea Holliday and Jolene Arroyo made the Second Team while Holliday was also named to the All-Rookie Team.

Erica Lafrades (Soph., Biology/Pre-Med, Pittsburg, CA) finished the season with a .357 batting average and a .552 slugging percentage.  In the field, she managed a .935 fielding percentage.  She led the team with 34 stolen bases – good for second in the conference.  She led the conference in doubles with 16.

Jolene Arroyo (Soph., Biology, Newburgh, NY) made the second team in the outfield.  She hit .252 with 19 RBI and 24 runs scored.  Her arm garnered much notice as she had 17 assists while playing primarily in left field.

Monica Grimmage (Sr., Speech Pathology, Georgetown, SC) made the second team at first base.  She had a .322 batting average, and led the CIAA in home runs with 12.  She led the Lady Bears in RBI with 45. 

Chelsea Holliday (Fr., Athletic Training, Burlington, NC) made both the Rookie and Second Team at catcher.  She hit .228, with a .537 slugging percentage.  She had 27 RBI on the season. 

The Lady Bears travel to Petersburg, VA to take part in the CIAA Softball Championship on Thursday.  Their first game is at noon at the Petersburg Sports Complex.
