Lady Rams Take 12-4 Loss at Norfolk State Trevin Q. Goodwin 05/08/10 WSSU falls short in night cap loss to Lady Spartans NORFOLK, VA – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (8-27) couldn’t find an answer for the Norfolk State Lady Spartans (14-27) in a 12-4 loss in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader. The Lady Rams kept the game in reach for much of the contest, but could not rally after an eight-run fourth-inning effort by the Lady Spartans. As a team, the Lady Rams managed just six team hits in the game with six WSSU players notching one hit each in the loss. Freshman infielder Britney Cato led the effort with a pair of RBI in the game. After allowing two runs to the Lady Spartans in the first two innings, the Lady Rams made their move with four third-inning runs. Junior catcher Kayla Woodbury drove in the first WSSU run of the game with an RBI single. Freshman Nikki Lynch added an RBI single while Cato finished off the inning with a two-RBI double. However, the four runs were all that the Lady Rams could muster while Norfolk State scored 10 unanswered runs, including eight fourth-inning runs. Freshman pitcher Tiffany Burgess (2-9) took the pitching loss, going three innings and allowing six earned runs on eight hits. |
