Shaw’s Kienka Named CIAA Tennis Player of the Year Sherri Fillingham 04/15/10 Five Lady Bears Named All-CIAA (Ettrick,
VA) – Shaw’s Lolia Kienka has been named the CIAA Women’s Tennis Player
of the year as well as All-CIAA. She is one of five Lady Bears named to
the All-CIAA team. The Lady Bears named All-CIAA were Kienka, Fernanda Silva, Livia Oliveira, Evan Okafor and Xania Steele. Kienka finished the season 22-1 at the number one singles slot, with her only loss coming against a Division I opponent. In the CIAA, she was one of five Lady Bears to finish the season undefeated with a 16-0 record. In doubles, with two different partners, she finished the season 20-2 and undefeated in the CIAA. Silva also finished the season 22-1, and 16-0 in the CIAA at the number two singles slot. With two doubles partners, she finished the season 21-1 and undefeated in the conference. Oliveira finished the season 19-4 overall, and 16-0 in the conference. In doubles, she was undefeated in conference and 21-1 overall. Evan Okafor also finished the season undefeated in the CIAA, and 18-5 overall. In doubles, she was 19-2 with two different partners. Xania Steele finished the season 18-2 and 15-0 in conference. With doubles partner Janae Williams, she was 3-8 in doubles, 3-4 in conference. The doubles win totals do not include matches defaulted to the pair due to incomplete rosters. The Lady Bears finished the season 19-4 and 16-0 in the CIAA, earning them the number one seed in this weekend’s championship. They play Saint Augustine’s Thursday afternoon in the first round of the CIAA Championships at Virginia State University. If they advance, they will play the winner of Bowie State and Elizabeth City State at 9:00 am Friday. |
