 To use an overused sports cliché, the game between the Shaw Bears and the Saint Augustine’s Falcons was billed as a “brawl for it all”. On the line was city bragging rights, the Southern Division title, and a berth in the 2010 CIAA Championship game
Fired-up Bears No Bull In the Bull City
The Bears didn't hibernate in the 2008 CIAA Football Championship Game in Durham, NC (the Bull city). After a defensive struggle in the first ten minutes of the opening period  they cashed in consecutive ECSU turnovers
- a blocked punt led to a field goal and interception led to a touchdown- to exit the 1st period with 10 unanswered points, to lead 13 to 7 at intermission, and prevailed 37 to 7 to repeat as CIAA conference champions. The Bears may have been motivated by the preseason accolades awarded to ECSU in-which coach Waverly Tillar was tabbed  Coach of the Year,  in the Conference of the Quarterbacks  Viking QB Curtis Rich was awarded Offensive Player of the Year and the designation as visitors on their home field foreclosed conference wide recognition except for the Bears was to win the game.

Fifty years after four North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University freshmen in 1960 sat down at a Woolworth lunch counter projecting Greensboro, NC onto the national and international stage with the beginning of what became known as the sit-in movement,  Greensboro business organizations with ties to UNC-Greensboro (UNC-G) working through  the  Board of Governors (BOG), UNC-General Administration (UNC-A) , and NC General  Assembly maybe be repackaging Jim Crow for the 21st Century as economic development and  jobs enslaving  historical black North Carolina A&T at Gateway Research Park with the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) serving private interest at public’s expense.
