Winston Salem 2017 Bailey Park Juneteenth Celebration
Winston-Salem, NC held its 13th Annual Juneteenth Festival, June 17, 2007 downtown Winston-Salem in the atrium of Wake Forest Biotech Place and across the street in Bailey Park. Celebrants were entertained by the Odisha Creative Arts African Dance Ensemble and bands.  Winston-Salem State Nursing Mobile clinic conducted screening and vendors hawked their wares.  A celebration of freedom, the Juneteenth Festival commemorated June 19th, 1865 when Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.
